This table was completed in May of 2023. The design was inspired by numerous antique trestle tables, ranging from Medieval European to early American pieces.

The table is 100% solid quarter-sawn white oak, that has been stained very dark brown, followed by several coats of polyurethane in a matte sheen, which resembles a low-lustre wax finish and offers maximum protection. It was built almost entirely with hand tools, at a bench and vise in my small home studio.

As with all of my tables, and my work in general, this was built using traditional joinery methods; glued and pinned mortise and tenons, and dovetails. No nails or screws were used. Surfaces are planed by hand, and shallow scallops from the tool are left unrefined, as with many European antiques. This creates a subtle ripple as you move your hand across, but the finish is silky smooth.

For easier transport, the top can be removed from the base, by first removing four oak trennels (pegs) from underneath, that are visible in the pictures.

The dimensions are 77” x 36.25” x 29.75”.
